ARTJOG 2025 - Motif: Amalan marks the conclusion of the Motif trilogy, curated by Hendro Wiyanto, which began in 2023. This theme invites artists to reimagine conventional perspectives and delve into the manifestations and impacts of artistic practice. It aims to highlight how artistic concepts can be transformed into tangible actions that make meaningful contributions in both the art world and society.

Anusapati (Yogyakarta) and REcycle-EXPerience (Bandung) are two commissioned artists invited by ARTJOG to interpret the theme “Motif: Amalan.” Their interpretations encompass a wide spectrum of ideas, from reflections on materials to environmentally conscious practices. Through their works, they emphasize the role of art as an “amalan”—an act of practice—imbued with ethical and social significance.

ARTJOG 2025 introduces a new program, “ARTJOG Spotlight,” which aims to provide a dedicated space for cross-sector collaboration. This pilot program features Reza Rahadian, who presents an art installation titled Eudaimonia as part of a project commemorating his 20-year career. To further emphasize the role of artistic practice in society, three ‘Special Projects’ by three artist collectives are also featured: ‘Tanah Air βeta’ by Murakabi Movement (Yogyakarta), ‘Perguruan Taman-ruru’ by ruangrupa (Jakarta), and the DEFVTO Printmaking Institute (Bali).

As an inclusive and substantial arts ecosystem platform, ARTJOG 2025 - Motif: Amalan not only offers a visual experience but also celebrates sustainable art practices. Featuring 47 adult artists and 44 child artists, ‘Motif: Amalan’ marks the culmination of a reflective, collaborative trilogy that offers a hopeful vision for the future of contemporary art practices in Indonesia.
