Condro Priyoaji was born in 1993 in Jember (East Java). He studied fine art at the Bandung Institute of Technology, Bandung. He submitted his works to Open Call-ARTJOG 2023 Program.
The main motif of Condro's work is the shadow painted using a subtle and nuanced technique, like the existence of the shadow itself. Through the technique of painting shadows, Condro blends the real shadow that occurs due to the projection of light in the exhibition space and the illusion of shadow that he painted. Which of the two is more real? Is the shadow an entity that requires existence? On one hand, in order to exist, real objects cannot be separated from the shadows that follow them, but on the other hand, when the real object disappears, the shadow doesn't seem to want to just leave its trace. Shadow also has its own shadow.
This installation of shadow was inspired by the poem Laut (1967) by Sanento Yuliman, especially these lines:
So is our soul
is the ocean that never sleeps.
and between the ocean within us
and the ocean around us,
there is no a dividing rock or a shore.
Both penetrate each other, embracing each other, both stretch
On an immeasurable bottom,
a lot of darkness stacked with each other
