Brahma Tirta Sari (Agus Ismoyo dan Nia Fliam)

Brahma Tirta Sari (Nia Fliam & Agus Ismoyo). Nia Fliam is from the USA, and Agus Ismoyo is from Yogyakarta. Nia Fliam studied at Pratt Institute, and Agus Ismoyo is a self-taught painter, who studied at the Academy of Industry in Yogyakarta. Both began their batik studio Brahma Tirta Sari in 1985. Brahma Tirta Sari means: Creativity is the Source of all Knowledge. Their intention has been to spotlight traditional creative processes such as batik and have the capacity to participate in the development of contemporary art forms actively. Brahma Tirta Sari participates in this year's ARTJOG as their work powerfully encapsulates the theme of the motives in their batik work. The core of Brahma Tirta Sari's work is taking batik out of the conventional realm of textiles and turning them into contemporary installations. This installation uses specific motifs from Nusantara or the Indonesian archipelago. One such batik motif is ''Batik Citra Semen,'' which is divided into two types, namely with a black background and a white background which depicts the tangible and intangible... The word semen comes from the word semi which means new growth or fertility. Within this motif, there are ornaments such as a house, flora and fauna, natural elements such as water, fire, earth, air, a dampar (throne of the king) and the tree of life as the background. Batik Citra Semen represents an inseparable process of regeneration of life and culture, as part of the nature that unites humans, the universe and the source of all that exists (the creative source). Batik Citra Semen is an image arising from the local ecology, especially Indonesia as a tropical country.''
