Filippo Sciascia

Filippo Sciascia's works are an in-depth exploration of the human learning process in relation to the universe. The Primitive Learning series, first presented in a solo exhibition at Nonfrasa Gallery, explores how knowledge is formed accumulatively-through ancient traces, the body, energy, and natural materials. For Sciascia, learning is not only an intellectual activity, but also a sensory and existential experience that involves interaction with the surrounding world.

In this series, he uses materials such as soil pigments, quartz powder, melatonin, and living mushrooms-materials that represent the connection between humans and the environment. These works are not just visual objects, but also take the form of living crystallizations of knowledge-resembling a material encyclopedia of the universe.
Sciascia's presentation at ARTJOG is a synthesis of Primitive Learning and his previous works. He creates a space where visuals, concepts, and energy intersect as a learning field. The paintings, installations, and intermedia work at ARTJOG demonstrate an artistic approach that is not linear, but a network that absorbs various sources of knowledge-from scientific achievements to ancient myths and rituals.

Through his practice, Sciascia invites us to see that the universe is not merely an object of observation, but a learning space that never stops giving clues. His works open up new possibilities in understanding the relationship between art, science, and life.
Filippo Amato Sciascia was born in Italy, 1972. Completed his studies at the Academia di Belle Arti Firenze, Florence. Started working and living in Bali, Indonesia in 1988.
